The 2022 European Young Masters has started under excellent weather at the beautiful Linna Golf in Finland. The 27th edition of the event is showcasing 31 nations represented by the top U16 boys and girls from Europe.
GIRLS
The lead in the girls’ event was taken by German player Marie-Agnes Fischer who shot a very solid 69 (-3) comprising 4 birdies and 1 bogey.
Following her, just two shots behind, are both the Finnish girls who played well on home ground and secured the 2nd position as tied. June Weckman completed quite an eventful round with 6 bogeys, 5 birdies and 1 eagle on hole 10, scoring a total 71 (-1). Her fellow teammate, Anastasia Hekkonen, also finished her round at 71 (-1).
The leaderboard then gets very packed as nine players are tied for the 4th rank at a total of level par 72.
BOYS
The boys’ played later with more wind during their round. Two players stood out by performing an impressive 66 (-6). Neo Berg from Sweden completed his front 9 with 1 birdie and it is on the back 9 where he really levelled-up his game by scoring another five birdies with three on the last four holes. He is sharing the lead with Swiss player Ben Steinimann who also scored a total of 6 birdies and pars for the rest.
Tied at the third position by only one shot are Jack Murphy from Ireland and Drew Sykes from England. Both players entered a strong round of 68 (-4) at recording.
Defending champion Jorge Siyuan Hao from Spain is tied at in fifth position with a total of 69 (-3) alongside Czech Louis Klein. The rest of the field is following very closely behind.
NATIONS’ CUP
With 29 nations eligible to participate in the team classification, the Nations’ Cup is showing a busy top leaderboard comprising three out of the best four scores of the team. Two teams are tied for the first spot with a total of 212 (-4).
Host nation Team Finland is one of them thanks to the individual performances of June Weckman and Anastasia Hekkonen who have made it in the top 3 girls, and Leevi Hellberg who is in the top 10 boys.
Tied with them is defending champion team Germany who is counting the individual girl leader Marie-Agnes Fischer’s great round and Uma Bergner’s finish in the top 5.
One shot behind at a total of 213 (-3) are three teams tied, Netherlands, Spain and Switzerland.
