The 2022 European Mid-Amateur Championships are underway.
The first event of the EGA's championship season is taking place at Golf du Médoc Resort near Bourdeaux in France.
The Mid-Amateur age category is for all golfers over the age of 25 (on day 1 of the championship). The minimum age limit was reduced from 30 last season, making this week's event just the second playing of the tournament with the lower age restriction.
The Chateaux course, host of the European Amateur Championship in 2021, will provide the test for the mid-amateurs this week. The tournament features three rounds of stroke play over three days, with a cut after two rounds.
144 players are competing in the event. 90 For the men's title and 54 for the ladies' title. The women's tournament is now in its fourth edition following its inauguration in 2019.
Both reigning champions, Maria Anetseder (GER) on the ladies' side, and Steven Rojas (SUI) on the men's side, will tee it up this week in defence of their titles.
2020 winners, Rodrigo Lacerda Soares (SUI) and Myrte Eikenaar (NED), will also look to add an additional European gold medal to their collections.
