The top U16 boys and girls from 27 nations have completed their journey in the 2021 European Young Masters on the Cooke Course at Vierumäki Golf Club in Finland.
GIRLS
The last group of Girls on the final day of the European Young Masters delivered a highly eventful round.
36-hole leader, Denisa Vodickova, started her final round with a three-shot lead. Vodickova struggled on the front-nine with four birdies and three bogeys, but had a steadier back 9 with a birdie on the 13th.
Belgian player, Savannah De Bock completed her second round with six birdies, including one at the 17th hole where she made a birdie putt of nine meters to tie for the lead on the 18th tee.
Helen Briem was the star of the final round. The German player started strong with an eagle on the first hole and three birdies on the front-nine.
All three girls in the final group were co-leading at the start of the 18th hole. Briem finally imposed herself with a brilliant eagle, holing an eight-metre putt, to card the lowest score of the day 65 (-7).
Briem finished with a total of 205 (-11) after the three days of competition, takin 1st place by two shots. Briem was awarded the Trophy and claimed the title of 2021 European Young Masters Girl Champion.
De Bock and Vodickova both made par on the 18th and finished tied at the second place with a total of 207 (-9), returning respectively 67 (-5) and 70 (-2) for this last round. De Bock claimed the silver medal and Vodickova the bronze medal.
BOYS
Tim Wiedemeyer, leader by one ahead of the final round, struggled on Day 3. The German junior reached the ninth in one-under, but suffered on the back-nine making two bogeys and two double-bogeys.
Wiedemeyer signed for a total of 76 (+4), for a total of 212 (-4) and second place.
Turkish player, Can Gurdenli earned the final spot on the podium thanks to a solid 69 (-3) for his final round.
The Turkish player made five birdies and two bogeys on the front-nine and only pars on the back-nine. Gurdenli finished at a total of 213 (-3), claiming the bronze medal of the championship.
The surprise of this last round was Spanish player, Jorge Siyuan Hao, who passed the front-nine at one-under-par and then made two consecutive birdies on holes 12 and 13. The Spanish player maintained his lead without trouble until the 18th where he made a bogey. In the end, the Spanish player finished his round with 70 strokes (-2), for a total of 207 (-9) and a five-shots victory.
NATION’S CUP
With two boys in the top four and two girls in the top-ten, including the 2021 European Young Masters Girls Champion, Helen Briem, team Germany maintained their first place from the start until the end of the championship, finishing at 630 (-18).
The competition for second place had a bit more suspense during this final round with Spain starting with one shot ahead of France.
Returning a card of 66 (-6), French player Vairana Heck helped her team move up the leaderboard. The two other French scores taken were the ones of Inès Archer, 71 (-1), and Noa Auch-Roy, 73 (+1).
Spain fought hard, taking the three 70 (-2) made by Paula Martin, Sergio Jimenez and 2021 European Young Masters Boys Champion Jorge Siyuan Hao.
Spain finished second at a total of 637 (-11) and claimed the silver medals, while France finished at the 3rd place one shot behind at 638 (-10) and claiming the bronze medals.
