Team Ireland has won the 2022 European Team Championship for Golfers with Disability.
The Irish team entered the Round 3 singles with a 16-shot advantage, following a dominant display in the greensomes on Day 2.
Playing in the championship for the first time, the Irish team never looked in trouble in the final round. With one of the four scores not counting in the singles, Aidan Grenham's 78 (+6) didn't cost the team any shots. Alan Gaynor returned a 76 (+4), while Conor Stone signed for a 71 (-1).
Brendan Lawlor then showed why he's the number-one ranked played in the World Ranking for Golfers with Disability (WR4GD), making birdie on the 18th to card the lowest score of the day (70, -2) and clinch the title for Ireland in style.
"We're buzzing." said team captain, Gareth McNeally. "The boys have played so well all three days. They've liked the look of the course since we turned up. We knew we had a strong team but I wasn't sure whether past experience would help other countries. We're absolutley delighted."
The Irish team finished with a total of -3 for the tournament, enough for a 25-shot victory.
Defending champions, Sweden, weren't able to mount a challenge in the final round and had to settle for second place. Counting scores of 74 (+2), 75 (+3) and 77 (+5) left them on a total of +22, and with the silver medals.
England clinched the final spot on the podium, finishing 11 shots ahead of France, with a total of +37.
