The final round of the 2022 European Young Masters took place under a cloudy sky and intermittent rain at the beautiful Linna Golf in Finland.
GIRLS
The final round of the girls’ group started with Portuguese Inês Belchior leading by three shots. Belchior kept her advantage after completing a front-9 holes at level par for a total (-3). The gap was quickly tightened by Perla Sol Sigurbrandsdóttir from Iceland who started off with three consecutive birdies on holes 3, 4 and 5, to move within one shot of the lead.
Sigurbrandsdóttir then made a bogey on the 10th meaning that there were four players tied at second place, one shot behind with just a few holes to play.
Two pars allowed the Icelandic player to finish at 70 (-2) for the day. Dropped shots from her close competitors in the closing holes, including a double-bogey on the 17th from Belchior, meant she would become the first Icelandic player to win a European Young Masters title.
Behind her at one shot and tied for the second place are players Kristine Lebova from Czech Republic and Anna Cañado from Spain, who were awarded silver and bronze medals respectively.
BOYS
In the boys’ category, dutch player Denny Kloeth, who was second at the beginning of the day, climbed his way up the leaderboard. Despite a bogey on the opening hole, the dutch player bounced-back with birdies on holes 4, 6 and 9.
Round 1 and 2 leader, Neo Berg (SWE) dropped four shots in the opening nine meaning Kloeth held a three shot lead by the turn.
An up and down back-nine which included 3 birdies, 1 double bogey and 1 bogey, totalled 70 (-2) for the day and -8 for the tournament, which was enough to claim the boys' title by two shots.
Tied at the second place with a total of 210 (-6) were Jack Murphy from Ireland and defending champion Jorge Siyuan Hao from Spain. The decision of ties allowed Murphy to claim the silver medal and Hao the bronze medal.
NATIONS’ CUP
The competition was very tight in the Nations’ Cup. Tied at the first place with a total 639 (-9) were two countries, Czech Republic and Spain. The decision of ties defines that the lowest total of the three non-counting scores would prevail.
The winner of the 2022 Nations’ Cup of the European Young Masters is Czech Republic who claimed the gold medal, while Spain is second on the podium winning the silver medal.
Behind them at a total 643 (-5) are nations Italy and France. The decision of ties allowed Italy to have the final spot on the podium and claim the bronze medal.
