The 2022 European Young Masters takes place this week in Finland.
117 players representing 31 different countries will compete in the 27th edition of the championship for under-16s.
Linna Golf, located 100km north of Helsinki, will provide the test to the players this year. The course is frequently ranked among the best in Finland, and has hosted the European Amateur Team Championship and St. Andrews Trophy in the last 10 years.
The event was first played in 1995, when Sergio Garcia won the Boys' title. A number of other notable players have medalled in the event in the past including Carlota Ciganda, Rory McIlroy, Suzanne Peterson, Georgia Hall and Matt Fitzpatrick.
The event is played over three rounds of stroke play, with each country sending up to four players (two boys and two girls). On top of the individual boys' and girls' categories, medals are also awarded for the Nations' Cup, the team classification. The team score is made up of the three lowest stroke play scores out of four each day.
Regning champion in the boys' category, Jorge Siyuan Hao, will return to defend his boys' title. A rare opportunity presents itself to the Spanish junior. Should he successfully defend his title this week, he would become just the second boy to win the event twice, after Rafael Cabrera-Bello more than 20 years ago.
Siyuan Hao will have some tough competition in Finland however, including recent Junior Open winner, Connor Graham (SCO).
The German team has won the last three editions of the Nations' Cup (team category). A fourth win would match the record for consecutive wins set by Spain between 2002 and 2005.
