Carlos de Corral, from Spain, claimed the 2017 European Mid-Amateur title with rounds of 73, 76 and 70, making it a total of 219 (+3). Erik Persson (SWE) and 2015 Champion, Richard Heath (AUS), finish second and third respectively, with a total of 222 strokes (+6) at Real Club de la Puerta de Hierro, Spain.
Madrilenian De Corral, whose golfing career also includes some years as professional before having changed back to Amateur status 7 years ago, expresses his joy after handing in his final card: "it has been my goal for a long time. I announced it last year, when I was playing only once every two months, but since then I prepared for winning this title!".
De Corral started superbly into the final day with recording five birdies on the first ten holes. With two bogeys on hole 13 and 15 the former EGA Championship Committee member started to show some signs of nerves. However, the two dropped shots should not have any impact on the final result and with a third round of two-under par, the Spaniard recorded the lowest round of the day and the championship to secure the European title.
