Number-one seeds, France, faced Ireland on the first day of match play at the European Ladies' Team Championship in Austria.
In the first match of Flight A, Ireland went up early in both foursomes matches. France fought back however, taking both morning matches to extra holes. The teams would eventually claim one match each, France on the 19th, and Ireland on the 20th hole.
The French team wasted no time in securing their spot in the semi-finals in the afternoon however, a dominant performance in the singles, where they won all five matches, sets them up with a semi-final against Denmark.
The Danes defeated England, who were hoping for a third successive victory in the championship, 4.5-2.5.
In the other half of Flight A, last year's runners-up, Italy, took on number-two seeds, Germany, and Sweden faced Finland.
The Italians triumphed 5-2 after winning the first three singles matches of the afternoon.
In the fourth quarter-final, both teams claimed three of the first six points, meaning the outcome would be decided by the match between Frida Kinhult and Karina Kukkonen, which was all-square through 18 holes.
Frida Kinhult, who topped the individual stroke play after the first two days, would birdie the 19th hole to send Sweden into the semi-final.
