England, Germany, Ireland and Spain Progress to Semi-Finals in Austria

Conditions were perfect on day three of the European Senior Men's Team Championship at Diamond Country Club, Austria.

The first day of match play saw eight teams face off in Flight A for spots in Friday's semi-finals.

Number-one seeds, England, narrowly edged out Sweden in a very tight encounter which saw four out of five matches go down the signature par-3 18th hole.

The match was eventually decided in favour of the English team after Stephen East birdied the third extra hole against 2018 European Senior Men's silver medallist, Mattias Pernheden.

The German team, which features 2018 European Senior Men's Champion, Martin Birkholz, defeated France 3.5-1.5 to setup a semi-final with England as they try to reach their second European Senior Men's Team Championship final in three years.

The defending champions, Ireland, overcame Scotland by a score of 4-1 and were the third team to reach the semi-finals.

The last Flight A encounter of the day, which saw Spain take on Italy, came down to the final match between Alejandro Lafarga and Filippo Clerici.

Clerici had a chance to closeo-ut the tie in favour of the Italians with a two-metre par putt on the 18th green, although a lip-out meant extra holes were needed to decide the match.

A par on the first playoff hole was enough for Spain to secure the final spot in the semi-finals, where they will take on the winners of four of the last five championships, Ireland.
