Joachim Fourquet Named as Jacques Léglise Trophy Captain

Joachim Fourquet has been named as captain of the 2019 Continent of Europe Jacques Léglise Trophy Team.

The former French national team player, who is currently the director of a financial services company in Bordeaux, will succeed Jeroen Stevens for the 2019 match between the Continent of Europe and Great Britain & Ireland.

As a junior, Fourquet twice finished runner-up in the French under-18 Championship, represented the French team at the European Boys' Team Championship on three occassions, including in their bronze-medal performance in 2000, and featured in the winning Continent of Europe side at the 2001 Jacques Léglise Trophy held at Golf de Chantilly.

Fourquet also represented France at the European Amateur Team Championship on two occassions, won the European Men's Club Trophy with Bordelais Golf Club in 2002, and played alongside Dustin Johnson on the Coastal Carolina University golf team.

Upon accepting the nomination, Fourquet said: "I am honoured and delighted to become captain of the Continent of Europe's team for the Jacques Léglise Trophy. It is a most prestigious international match in which generations of champion golfers have gained an invaluable experience by competing against the best of their peers."

"For those having the honour of following Jose-Maria Olazabal, Thomas Bjorn, Sergio Garcia, Alex Noren, Rafa Cabrera-Bello, Matteo Manassero, and Viktor Hovland, I know that it will be a unique and most fulfilling occasion. I know that all those privileged to be selected will do their utmost to regain the Trophy."

Fourquet will attempt to regain the trophy for the Continent of Europe side, won by Great Britain & Ireland at Kytäjä Golf in Finland this year, at the end of August 2019 when the teams tee it up at Aldeburgh Golf Club in Suffolk, England.
