European Mid-Amateur Championships: Preview

For the first time this year, the EGA is staging a championship for mid-amateur ladies. Played alongisde the Men's event from 6 to 8 June, the European Mid-Amateur Ladies' Championship will see 36 players, representing 13 different countries, compete to be the first to engrave their names on the trophy.

The championships travel to Finland for the first time, where St. Laurence Golf, hosting its second EGA event (after the European Girls' Team Championship in 2017), will set the stage for the 144 competitors.

The 29th edition of the Men's event will see 108 players from 21 countries compete to be crowned the 2019 European Mid-Amateur Men's Champion. The winner of the last two editions, Carlos de Corral, will be absent for this year's championship, although three past champions will tee it up at St. Laurence Golf: Australian, Richard Heath won the event in 2015, Alexander Koller of Germany in 2014, and Denmark's Morten Schou in 2012.

Finland will be well represented at home, 27 men will be hoping to become just the second Finnish player to claim the Men's title, while 11 Finnish players will compete in the Ladies' event.

The format of both events are identical. All players will play two rounds of stroke play over two days, after which a cut will take place for the low 54 and ties in the Men's event, and the low 33 and ties in the Ladies'. The players making the cut in both events will then complete a final 18 holes on day three.
