The top U16 boys and girls from 27 nations have started their journey in the 2021 European Young Masters on the Cooke Course at Vierumäki Golf Club in Finland.
Boys
The leader after Round 1 is Tim Wiedemeyer. The German player carded with the lowest score of the first day of competition, a 65 (-7).
Wiedemeyer delivered an exceptional first round which included 7 birdies and 1 eagle.
Close behind him is Spanish player, Jorge Siyuan Hao, who signed for a round of 67 (-5) with five birdies.
Positioned third is Czech player Ziga Babnik, returning a total score of 69 (-3). The other competitors to complete their first round under par are Turkish players Ali Berk Berker and Can Gurdenli, both with scores of 71 (-1).
Girls
Starting later in the day under heavy winds, German player Helen Briem and Czech player Denisa Vodickova are leading at the end of round 1 with scores of 69 (-3).
Positioned in third place is Spanish player, Paula Martin who is only one shot behind after an opening round of 70 (-2).
Behind, five players are tied for 4th position with a total score of 71 (-1): Perla Sól Sigurbrandsdóttir (ISL), Inès Archer (FRA), Francesca Fiorellini (ITA), Savannah De Bock (BEL) and Emma Jaczkovics (HUN).
Nations' Cup
With two of their players leading in each of the individual categories, Team Germany has taken the lead in the Nation’s Cup by five shots, with a total of 208 (-8).
Spain is placed second at the end of the 1st round with a total of 213 (-3). In third position is team Czech Republic with a total of 215 (-1).
